The name was chosen by Dr. Crawford in Orange, TX, he was a wonderful employer. My name is Rhonda Plunkett and I have been sewing for 27 years. I find it a joy and away to escape to my world of peace. I began sewing for my daughter and as she grew my sewing improved. I found myself making things that, in the beginning, I just dreamt of. Seven years ago my daughter was modeling for David's Bridal and then became employed there and she told them I could sew. The manager at that time hired me over the phone and I found myself employed doing wedding gowns for the first time ever.
As you could imagine I was a nervous wreck. I had only sewn for fun and area kids. I found myself looking down at a $800 wedding gown needing a hem and thinking what did I get myself into. Being a brave person, I cut the dress and said now you have to fix it. Needless to say that I did not sleep until that bride came in to try on her dress. The length was perfect she was so happy and I had found my purpose in life. Doing alterations for brides is such a pleasure and honor that it is hard to describe in words. I like knowing that I helped make the most important day of her life even better, a good fitting gown will make the bride more confident and not afraid to walk down the isle and to dance all night without a worry. I worked at David's Bridal as Alterations Manager for over 3 years. I took one year off to make my daughters wedding gown and all the bridesmaids and flowergirl dresses. The pictures below will let you see my work and meet my family, I hope you enjoy!
This is my daughter Brandy, in her wedding gown that she designed and the first one I ever made. All the beading was done by hand and for her portraits she lost weight and I had to alter her gown for the wedding. So make sure that when you have your gown altered that you maintain your weight, otherwise, you will be paying for alterations to be done twice; which has happened on many occasions. At the portraits, she had to keep pulling up the dress. At the wedding after alterations she did not pull it one time.
This is me with my daughter at her reception. Her dress had the perfect fit and she never tugged at the top once. Her hem was high enough that she walked everwhere without worries and was able to sit comfortably. She does look quite happy if I say so myself. My dress was bought and I did do some minor alterations to it. I had to bring up the shoulder straps on the dress. Bring in the jacket in the back and at the waist seams. This dress is for sale and I will do the alterations and the things I did on the dress is for free. I did not hem the dress. It is a size 18 but I put it to fit me comfortably for a 16. I do not like things binding me in the arms and across the back. If interested give me a call.
I also made all the bridesmaids dresses. Brandy's colors where pink and orange and it was beautiful. This photograph was done by Martin Alston Photography. He has a real eye for color and was such a joy to work with. He really made all the girls feel like princesses.
This is Brandy and her niece Caitlin as her flowergirl. I also made her dress. She loved it being big and poofy and all the beading details with bows you really can't see in the picture.
This is my son, Eric, with his sister. Eric is taken, sorry girls. His wedding was June 20, 2009. I am making the bridal gown and bridesmaids dresses. So check back this summer and see how they turned out.
This is my proud husband, Melvin. He did very well walking her down the isle I just knew he would cry, but he surprised me. In the background is Brandy's best friend, Troy, and his wife Katy was the Matron of Honor, her other best friend. It was due to them that she met her husband, my new son.
This is my new son-in-law, Chris Farr. He has made Brandy very happy and is a great extention of the family. Chris, glad to have you in the family.
My son Eric and bride Samantha, I made her dress. She is such a great daughter-in-law.
